In this project, we designed a new science building for San Marin High School
Our Presentation
Process
This project was a lot longer then most, but that was because we covered a lot of different concepts during this project. Before we could start building, we had to understand what we were building on, so we studied the different layers of the earth. Then, since we had to use daylighting techniques, we had to understand the sun, and in turn space. We did this by creating a model of the solar system(see below). After that, we had to actually understand the before mentioned daylighting techniques and why we want to use them. For that, we made a smaller scale passive solar building building that we constructed with cardboard(see below) and added in daylighting techniques so we could study how effective they were. We also had to power the science building, so we had to learn about different types of renewable energy. The entire class worked on one document together(see below) so we could learn about these renewable energies and why we want to use them. Finally, with all this information under our belt, we were finally able to take on this presentation. When we started, the only requirements were that it needed to have 10 classrooms (2 chemistry labs, 2 biotech labs and 6 all purpose) and we had a $10 million budget. We made our 3d model and presentation in 2 and a half weeks, and presented to the architects who were working on the actual design.
Solar System Model
For our solar system model, we had to focus on one variable for all planets and make some sort of equation to predict said variable and predict that variable for a new planet, Planet X. Our group focused on orbital period.

Reflection
This group did not work well at all together, making my pit being cooperation. In this group we were always arguing with one another, even to the point were I would have to walk out of class for a short period of time. On future projects, I can try to avoid some of these problems by biting my tongue and try and not make arguments worse. Another pit my group had was productivity. My group arguing also resulted in us taking up more time and failing to finish the work in the necessary time, so we wold have to give up lunches and do work at home. On future projects, I will try to keep our group on task and not argue or waste time
One peak I had in our project was fixing my mistakes. When we did have to work overtime, I did my work instead of just complaining. We lost our 3d model twice, but I recreated it. I did my best to not leave a trail of destruction. Overall this project was a disaster, and I hope I can use what I learned to make sure I do not have a project this poor again.
